O Magnum Mysterium

'O Magnum Mysterium' was written by Tomas Luis de Victoria (1548 - 1611) and considered one of the greatest works of the late renaissanceIt's a 4 part motet that is largely polyphonic and is a great example of the complexity of choral music in the church at that time. The text is from The Matins of Christmas which is thought to date back to the 10th century and has been set to music by many composers. This transcription is a result of work during the lockdown period during 2020. At first I was looking for a hymn to create a level 2 arrangement suitable for school bands. Something along the line of 'A Childhood Hymn' by David Holsinger. But as I was searching through youtube I discovered some choral works from the renaissance - among them 'O Magnum Mysterium' by Victoria. After a few listens I thought it might work well as a transcription. It's a level 4 - please check it out! Available now.
