2016 has been my busiest year yet as a self publisher!
Firstly 2 newly available compositions performed at the Engadine Music Band Reading Day - 'A Grand Occasion' and 'In Pursuit Of Excellence'. Thanks Engadine Music!
I completed 2 commissions works - 'Sci -Fi' for the North Shore Band Festival and 'Blytheswood Overture' for Warrawee Public School (available late 2017).
Many orders for music from mainly primary schools who were after new Australian compositions to play at the NSW Schools' Band Festival held in August. For those who don't know, a requirement of this band festival is each group must perform a work or arrangement by an Australian composer or arranger. 'Blytheswood Overture' was publicly premiered at this years festival, as was 'Settler's March' last year.
Being invited to compose for the North Shore Band Festival for the second time was a highlight for 2016! 27 bands performed at this years festival on the first weekend of September. Each group performed a nominated work of mine in their program of 3 pieces. 'Sci - Fi' was the test piece for the A grade section and was premiered by 3 great primary school bands. For me the standout performance for the festival was Cherrybrook Public School who performed 'A Grand Ocassion' in B grade. It was great to have Gold, Silver and Bronze awards for the first time at this festival!
Also in September, 'Sci - Fi' was featured in a seminar at ANBOC - the Australian National Band and Orchestra Conductors conference at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
